YVG visited Valjevo, Arilje and Ivanjica

Partnership between State agency for Energy Efficiency and Youth Voices Group has always been successful. This is the report from our second joint activity which shows that we have the same attitude towards this important issue. Our first activity was held from 19.-21.05.2007. in Ivanjica and Katići. YVG Serbia is the most active group on this issue among all other YVGs in ECA region. Thus, we are going to organize soon an YVG ECA VC dedicated to this topic and our approach to it, since other groups have shown deep interest in activities which are carried out by YVG Serbia-more precisely EE subgroup. After this visit we are going to prepare small interactive presentation about our activities at the field, and it will be used as part of education kit that we are going to share with other YVGs.

DAY I / 21.02.2008. / Visit to Hospital in Valjevo, departments for pediatric and psychiatry

YVG Serbia, represented by five members and Mrs. Gordana Stojanović on behalf Agency, has left Belgrade in early morning hours and we have arrived around 10am in Valjevo’s Hospital. This hospital was covered by EE project before and it has been much reconstructed and made more efficient regarding energy saving and cost saving. Moreover, reconstructed block is more esthetic and pleasant for people who come there for treatment. Our aim was to visit pediatric department and to have presentation on EE adapted for children. Presentation was mainly delivered by Mrs. Gordana Stojanović. We must admit that there were just few children, which is anyway good. But there were also employees and press department of the Hospital.

After short presentation of the project, of the Agency and YVG, we have distributed promotion material provided by the Agency. Press department of this Hospital is very active and capable (article about our visit available at Hospital’s web page: http://www.zcvaljevo.co.yu/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=277&Itemid=1) , so they organized press conference after this event where project was presented by Mrs. Gordana Stojnović. We have also briefly presented YVG and its role in this activity and mentioned that we are recruiting new members now.

Afterwards, escorted by Hospital’s PR we have visited Psychiatry department which has been recently reconstructed. This department is the biggest one in this part of the country and it has been directed by team of very energetic professionals. Here, YVG members and Mrs. Stojanović had opportunity to spend some time with people who are under treatment, to speak with them about conditions of life, treatment and other topics. This department is very well organized and it seems that they are providing very good conditions for beneficiaries. Even it in not in our opus of activities, it was very useful and new experience for each of us, especially due to the fact that there are also placed young persons who had problem with narcotics.

Around 12.30 am group has left Valjevo and via Kosjerić continued trip towards Ivanjica, and ANEMIJA Center. There, were we have been placed and experienced energy inefficiency ourselves, in late afternoon hours we had meeting with management of the Hotel regarding their problems and recommendations for overcoming this EE problems. Of course, in this part Mrs. Stojanović was providing professional advices.

DAY II / 22.02.2008. / Visit to Arilje’s Primary School

In the morning around 10 am we arrived to Arilje’s School which is going to be reconstructed by the end of the year. After short pre-meeting with school’s director and teachers we have provided interactive presentation for around 100 pupils. They liked presentation a lot and it seems they have some conciseness about EE.  The presentation was very interactive and all members of YVG have actively participated in the delivering different facts and figures. After 30 minutes we have provided our leaflets and presents for children. We have mentioned some general information about EE, but of course about Climate Change and YVG in general as well.

We were very positively surprised by approach of the people in this region. People are very enthusiastic and private sector and entrepreneurship are well developed, more than in other parts of Serbia. Thus, we hope that Bank will continue to support this area with other possible programs.
