YVG Retreat

The Hotel “Sumadija Best Western”, in the Belgrade suburb of Banovo Brdo, was the location of the YVG retreat, held from the 26th to the 28th of October 2007. The members planned and organized a work weekend, which yielded considerable results, vital for the future operation of the group.

The starting activity was getting to know what SWOT analysis is and using it to examine the groups work so far. After that the group’s mission, vision and stakeholders were defined. The group also formulated how it will function as a unit.

The Strategic Plan of the YVG is certainly the pinnacle of the work done during the retreat, because it will enable the group’s future efficient operation. The plan lays down in detail the groups goals and the activities in which it will be involved till the end of the fiscal year. With the plan as its foundation the group formed a Budge proposal that was later approved by the World Bank. Another important result of the retreat is an ordinance that defines the obligations and code of conduct of the coordinator and members of the group.

The final part of the retreat consisted of the group’s agreement concerning the upcoming meeting with the Minister of Youth and Sport as well as the selection of a representative and his deputy for the Ministries business sector advisory committee. This committee deals with the drafting of the National Youth Strategy. Dejan Tonić was chosen to be the YVG representative with Dimitrije Talić as his deputy.

The most significant results of this retreat are that the group has finally specified its role, method of operation, goals, plans and everything else crucial for it to be efficient and accomplish good results. Besides that team spirit within the group was also strengthened. We showed that people who individually work well, work even better as a team.
